Life

Horribly beautiful
in all it’s glory
inspiration one moment
desperation the next
painted with
telling brush strokes
the truth never
quite revealed
horribly beautiful
this thing called life

Mirrors

Room full of mirrors
glance here there
looking ever deeper
hoping for a different reflection

Truth

truth
Another of my Poetry Club poems:

I never tell the truth
and I care too much what people think
writing makes me sick
and reading is only a chore

I don’t believe in love
or that forever can exist
that you only live once
and life is just a bore

I don’t wish to be happy
and I never think I can succeed
but if you believe any of this poem
a mental readjustment is what you need

(The prompt for this poem was to write a poem about yourself in which nothing is true)

Lies

lies
The lies you tell yourself
so you can lie to others
a never ending circle
no truth in sight

The words repeated so often
they begin to sound like truth
but only to those who
do not know you

For those who do they know
it is not possible
for you to tell the truth
about even the smallest things

You every waking moment lived
is a lie waiting to be told
you believe it
but I never did

Don’t

lie
Don’t say you love me
if it isn’t true
or that you’re my friend
then stab me in the back

Don’t say you care
when your actions lie
and every word you speak
is only hollowly false

Don’t make nice to my face
then talk about me in whispers
or pretend for others
but I know the truth

Don’t waste my time with the petty
drama that takes up every day
I’m too strong for you
and I won’t live that way

Terror

terror
The things that scare us most
are those that are real
those that could actually happen
those that truly exist

Not zombies or aliens
or giant robots or vampires
it is bombs in backpacks
poison gas or powder

Someone who is angry
deluded or just plain crazy
unpredictable and right next door
these are what true terror is for

At school or church or right in the street
it could be anyone you meet
things that could truly be real
these are what terror looks like

The unknown of your neighbor
perhaps someone you see everyday
this is where it lies
true terror is this way

Evil

evil
If you would call me
by my right name
perhaps I wouldn’t
hurt so many

If you would recognize me
for what I am
perhaps you could
make me less

If you would see the real me
instead of making up
politically correct words to cover my sins
perhaps the light would harm me

If you would say to me
every time someone dies by my hand
the truth of who I am
perhaps i would retreat

My destruction and death have a name
it’s not tragedy or terrorism or unknown assailants
you know my name and perhaps you should say it
Evil

Once

once
Once, when I was less
than what I am today
I let myself think
that it was just okay

The choices that were made
once, when I was clouded
and the wisdom I once had
was dark and shrouded

Down the path
to be deceived
my own version of the truth
I then believed

To almost lose it all
throw everything away
a decision based on lies
once, when I was less than what I am today

Walk

So easy it is to quickly judge
the ones we do not know
to assume too much about their lives
thinking we know all about them

Walk for just one minute in their shoes
see life as they do in just one step
before you decide who they are
and what they think and feel

Their hardships may not be what is visible
the minute by minute trials they face
while we presume to know the truth
living the truth is another story

Walk for a moment in their lives
become what they must endure
live as they do each day
for just one moment in time

A Secret Life

A secret life is that important
Hide things we never share
From those who call themselves friends
And those we wish were never there

Things we never speak aloud
Whispers to our hearts
Not where anyone would hear
Use them to pick us apart

A secret life is that important
Holding everything in place
Keeping truth from seeping

Nothing showing on our face

Things we desire
We dare not say
Hidden in depths
Kept so far away

A secret life is that important
Keeps us sane so we believe
When as the spider to the fly
We practice to deceive
